Gateway to the Moon

Discussion led by Deborah Cherniss
A dual timeline traces a history of suffering and oppression, from the Spanish Inquisition to modern-day New Mexico, shown through the generations of a single family. Luis Torres, a converso, sailed with Columbus in 1492. In 1992 New Mexico, his descendent, teen-aged Miguel, wants to learn about the stars and escape his impoverished life. Baby-sitting for a newly-arrived Jewish couple shows him similarities to observances his family has followed, without understanding. (Fiction, 2018)
