Academic Freedom, Open Discourse, Social Justice and the LGBTQ Community in Israel

Dr. Blackmer will talk about how the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement that has become a central part of social justice advocacy on campus, particularly within gender and sexuality studies programs.

Dr. Corinne Blackmer was born in Santa Monica, California and grew up in Connecticut, California, and Israel. She served as an assistant medic in the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) on the Sinai-Egyptian front of the Yom Kippur War (1973).  She attended University of California, Los Angeles, where she received her B.A. in English and Classics, her M.A. in Ancient and Modern Rhetoric, and her Ph.D. in American Language and Literature.
